Omegon pro LRGB filter set - color filters for use with monochrome CCD cameras

This LRGB filter set allows you to use your monochrome CCD camera to put together high resolution color images.

Monochrome CCD cameras usually offer higher resolution than color cameras. But how do you obtain a high quality color image with them? - you can, using this LRGB filter set which consists of four parts:

  • luminance filter - for the monochrome channel
  • red filter
  • green filter
  • blue filter

The individual images from each of these four filters are combined to produce a higher resolution color image. That is because each color channel uses all the pixels on your camera, a very different story from color cameras.

This set is best used in conjunction with a filter wheel, which allows you to easily change to a new filter after each set of exposures by simply rotating the filter wheel. The result is that, image by image, the components of the final, composite, color astronomy image are exposed.

LRGB filter set - for astrophotography using monochrome CCD cameras

Four filters for a color image - The LRGB filter set is used to photograph the sky in  using a monochrome chip camera. Monochrome CCD cameras used for astrophotography provide a bright image of deep sky objects at very high resolution as all the pixels on the chip work together to produce the image. However, the resolution is minimized with cameras using color CCD chips, as about 1/3 of the pixels have color filters.

Only an LRGB filter set with a monochrome camera makes use of the entire chip and can hence generate a high-resolution color image.

L - the luminance filter

The luminance filter passes the entire visible light spectrum but blocks near UV and IR light - so this filter collects all the useful object information.

RGB - each filter has a special task

These three letters stand for the three different RGB color filters from which you finally create your color photograph. The colors that we perceive consist of the three primary colors - red, green and blue. Combined, these give all the colors that we can see. Our eyes too mix all the colors of our world from internal RGB receptors (or filters).

The four images from LRGB channels are combined in the image processing procedure and basically create the final color photograph.

Tip: Using the Omegon Filter Wheel with the LRGB filter set for your astrophotography lets you change filters in just seconds.

The advantages in a nutshell:

  • LRGB filter set for color photography with CCD monochrome cameras
  • full chip resolution via four different external filters
  • durable - scratch-resistant coating
  • neutral colors for deep sky objects and planets
